Hab Checks? Student Council?

Written by The Editor

Is it fair?

Is it fair that we’re given premature information?

Is it fair to give us as little info as possible and expect us to vote?

Yeah, just give use the cons later.

Is it fair to mislead us?

Today, I witnessed a giant disorganized student council. Our representative could barely say a word. The teacher had to pitch in to get everybody’s attention. I had only grasped fragments of what our representative had to say. I heard “I don’t know” “ummmm…” “I have to check on that” more than I would like to.

Doesn’t student council anticipate these questions? What do they do in there for an entire lunch period? What happened to our so called president? Vice-president? Secretary? Student Representatives?

What is the point of asking us to vote if you’re not giving us any information? So that the school would look better with a “democracy”? Well, this so called “democracy” is failing. What about discussion? The “discussion” I experienced was way so far from that. People shouting, half listening or none at all, a kid trying to get our attention, was all I can say about discussion. I get booed for asking some details. I’m asked “Hey, why don’t you just agree with everyone else”?

OK, I understand the raffle decision. It sounds pretty good.

But, Ipods? Digital Cameras? Why not many low priced prizes, rather than one high priced one? (i.e. front of the line passes at lunch) I’m going to be competing with 1000 other kids for one prize. Oh yes. Another point, what happens to that one kid? I hope he/she doesn’t get their name announced, because I know A LOT of people who would do anything for that $100+ item.

THE PROS!

There are some really well thought decisions that came out of this. I love that they decided to give you two weeks to do it. It would really be bad to have forgotten one week and sudden get detention. Kudos for that!

I’m not blaming anyone. I just really really really really really really want student council to be more organized and actually hear us. Is that too much to ask?

Sincerely,
The Editor

Friends vs. School

by The Editor (gal) somebody125@gmail.com

I am sincerely sorry that I have not written a single thing for the last two weeks. I really am...

Friends v. School. Going out on a Friday night or finishing that essay? Spending an hour straigtening your hair or spending an hour studying?

Our young generation has WAAAYYY to much free time. I think most of us are spending way too much time with friends than with our education. There is always a need of a balance. But honestly, that so called "balance" has been twisted and turned into a whole new meaning.

People think that spending 3 hours with your friends and pulling C's means you have a great balance.

Many of us find that with each 30 minutes of work, there needs to be two hours of play. Our education right now is precious. What happens when you have a dead-end job? Can friends really help you get a higher position? a high salary? No, only you can only do that for yourself.

Why can't most of see into the future? Nobody is really capable to studying all of the time with no friends. Honestly, I know, our brains just aren't designed like that. Sometimes, I want to choose pleasure over work. Yet, I always imagine myself in some dead-end job, just miserable and lonely.

Really, all I want to say is that you go to school for 6 hours, do something with it.

Sincerely,
The Editor

I'm REALLLY TIRRREEEDDD. I am sorry for my rambling. Hopefully, my partner can do a better job for the next article.

Principal's Challenge

by The Editor somebody125@gmail.com (gal)

The principal challenged all students to pick up a new sport with a discount of 30%-50% off. The deadline for the 10% discount was before winter break.

Are there such things as deadlines? People who missed the deadline now get an even greater discount. Constantly, the deadline was set to date... Then extended.... Then extended more.. and even more... Is that something to teach us?

"In life it's perfectly okay to miss deadlines because you will always get another chance. OH YES! a greater reward also. They aren't there for any reason."

Yet, I know if it weren't for these deadlines, I probably would have forgotten to sign up.

This challenge does yield many benefits, contrary from what I've said.

I understand. Actually, the negatives aren't even that important if you look at the big picture. The benefits of this challenge outweigh many of the miniscule negatives. The low price is hard to turn down. More kids will try new sports and they might find out something they love to play.

I want more kids joining intramurals anyway.

Competition makes you stronger.

Sincerely,
The Editor

(My English teacher would give me a big "no-no" for "flip-flopping" too much.... But I want all of you to have a two sided view)

Next Edition NEW SCHEDULES! Will be posted sometime next week, so check back soon!

Bleachers!

by The Editor somebody125@gmail.com (gal)

Quite frankly, I’m shocked.

No unveiling
No assembly
No announcement

It has been something we’ve spent an entire year fundraising, everybody has heard all about these things. It was like these 60k+ bleachers were just another addition to our school. When I walk in the gym, all I see are these drab gray folded-up bleachers, that aren’t that high, I might add.

There has been so much hype. We’ve had Faculty Follies, giant thermometers, T-shirts saying “Got Bleachers?” and a many more fundraisers. Everything for these bleachers, and nobody has even noticed.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the bleachers are a wonderful addition to the school, but I just wish I could see them at full glory.

Oh yes, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I'm sorry for being late.

Sincerely,
The Editor
